District Court in Wayne offering limited time amnesty program

The 29th District Court in Wayne is offering a limited-time amnesty program for individuals with delinquent court cases. The initiative provides an opportunity for participants to settle outstanding financial obligations at a reduced cost, while also assisting the court in efficiently clearing a backlog of cases without additional court resources of collection costs, according to a prepared statement from the court.

This year, the amnesty program will continue from Sept. 2 through Sept. 30. Any individual with a past due payable violation must contact the 29th District Court to determine their eligibility and obtain instructions for participation. Eligibility and procedures are available at (734) 722-5220.

Eligible participants will have default, late fees, and warrant fees waived, reducing the total amount owed to the court to the original fine. Warrants will be canceled upon full payment of the original fine. A $45 clearance fee will still apply and cannot be waived, a court spokesman noted.

Court officials cautioned that “this is a one-time opportunity.” After Sept. 30, the court will resume aggressive enforcement and collection efforts, including the full imposition of penalties and late fees.

Payments must be made by cash, credit card, certified check or money order, officials said. A 4 percent service fee will be applied to credit card payment. Personal checks will not be accepted.

The 29th District Court is located at 34808 Sims Ave in Wayne. Information is also available at cityofwyane.com/300/29th-District-Court.
