Westland Rotary Club presents annual student scholarships
The Westland Rotary Club and North Brothers Ford of Westland recently awarded scholarships to graduating high school seniors from the Wayne-Westland Community Schools District. Scholarship winners include: Samantha Horner, Wayne Memorial High School – The James E. North Memorial Scholarship Kyndall Parker, Wayne Memorial High School-– The James E. North Memorial Scholarship. Parker will study psychology at Oakland University.
DeAri Hunt, John Glenn High School-– The James E. North Memorial Scholarship. Hunt will study biological sciences at Wayne State University.
Ethan Shroat , John Glenn High School, Westland Rotary Club. Shroat will study business at Alma College.
Emma Tanner, John Glenn High School, Westland Rotary Club. Tanner will study medical imaging at Schoolcraft College.
Nazir Morris, Wayne Memorial High School, Westland Rotary Club. Morris will study nursing at Henry Ford College.
"High school is not an easy journey," said Judge Mark McConnell of the 18th District Court at the ceremony, which took place at Joy Manor banquet hall in Westland. "It has its ups and downs." He praised the student honorees and their parents for lifting others up, achieving, "not only with a ceremony but with some cash, which is always good, right?"
Tom North represented his family's auto dealership in honoring his late father. Students praised their parents, with Morris adding to the club, "Thank you for the opportunity."
"I don't know where I'd be without family,” said winner DeAri Hunt.
