Volunteers help clean up roads in Canton and Plymouth
Local volunteers collected about 325 pounds of trash during a recent clean-up effort along stretches of both Ann Arbor and Ridge roads in the area.
The global non-profit organization Dr. Shri. Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Pratishthan (DSNDP) organized the clean up as part of the Michigan Adopt-A-Highway project in collaboration with the Michigan Department of Transportation. The seven volunteers working on Ridge Road collected several large bags of trash and 11 others working along Ann Arbor Road filled 13 large trash bags for a total cleanup of 325 pounds of litter from the respective areas.In alignment with the motto "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (The world is one family), the organization aims to foster a brighter future by advocating for cleanliness drives. The group was formed in July of 2022 by founders Dr. Shri Appasaheb Dharmadhikari and Dr. Shri Sachindada Dharmadhikari.
Earlier this year, volunteers from the group participated in the invasive plant removal effort across five communities which drew 113 volunteers who worked 286 hours to collect 2,580 pounds of trash.
The organization continues to collaborate with 18 states and 76 cities across the United States for nationwide cleanliness efforts including 27 different programs such as Adopt-Highway/Park/Beach/ Street/ River etc. During these efforts, DSNDP has successfully engaged 3,022 volunteers, actively collecting 47,250 pounds of trash. The organization has received multiple accolades from various state and county governments including 67 certificates and 97 signboards.
The organization is also involved in tree plantings in 15 states and 37 cities and is also involved in health initiatives including the Women's Cancer Awareness Conference and blood/ plasma donation drives in Canada and the United States. DSNDP also organized a Mega Cleanliness Drive and Tree Conservation Event across 30 locations simultaneously to celebrate Earth Day 2025.
