A new farmers' market is expected to open at the Nankin Mills Interpretive Center in Westland this month.
The new market, a cooperative effort of the Wayne County Parks Department and the Eastern Market Corporation, is expected to open from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, May 13 and operate on a bi-weekly basis, according to a prepared statement from the parks department.
The market will continue every other Saturday at Nankin Mills, 33175 Ann Arbor Trail through Sept. 30. The official announcement of the new market claims shoppers will be able to purchase fresh and affordable locally produced foods. The Eastern Market Corporation operates the Detroit Farmers Market every Saturday in downtown Detroit.
The new venture will not conflict with the ongoing Westland Farmers Market which takes place from 3 until 7 p.m. Thursdays at 1901 Carlson St. officials said.
