A million-dollar federal grant has helped 27 small business owners in Romulus build and advance their businesses.
The Nest, a resource of the Downtown Development Authority, is available to anyone looking to build their business within Romulus. The Nest is also the home of Best Practices Consulting and the small business advocate officially opened in the city last November.
The grant, secured for the city by Rep. Rashida Tlaib, is being used in the small business innovation center, for façade programs and talent development in the community retail corridor.
“The retail corridor is still developing, but with the new initiative, it gives us an opportunity to put our hands around small businesses that are ready,” said Laura Sigmon with Best Practices Consulting Services. Sigmon has been working with small business owners to develop and grow their businesses in the city. She said the Nest can help business owners access capital with zero interest up to $15,000. Romulus.
This is ideal for this type of entrepreneurial help as neighboring cities are at and beyond business capacity. New business operations there require a larger financial investment, she said.
The Nest office is located at 11189 Shook Road in Romulus and is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Downtown Development Authority can be reached at (734) 942-7545.
