Developers plan to construct two buildings containing 103 apartment units on the site. Currently, the site is contaminated with metals and petroleum compounds along with inground debris deposited when the property was used as a landfill in the 1930s.
State EGLE awarded developers a $535,000 Brownfield Redevelopment Grant to install a vapor mitigation system and a separate $1 million EGLE Brownfield Redevelopment Loan to be used to offset the cost of special deeper foundations needed on the land.
Plans indicate the redevelopment will connect the property to Hines Park and the Middle Rouge Parkway. Construction is estimated to conclude in December of 2025, officials said.
