The other three competitors moving on as finalists are Bridgman, Coldwater and Port Huron, according to an official statement from the organization.
The finalists were determined by a small voting board and the top four projects will go on to compete at the league convention, where they will present their projects on the main stage and market their projects at designated CEA finalist booths.
The convention is scheduled for Oct. 18-20 in Traverse City. Attendees will vote for their favorite project, with the project winning the most votes awarded the official Community Excellence Award during the closing general session.
“We are excited to learn more about our finalists' projects at our convention this fall,” said Barb Ziarko, the president of the league board of trustees and Sterling Heights city councilmember. “Projects like these are helping our state continue to create thriving communities, and we are proud to celebrate them.”
The CEA has been the most prestigious league community award since 2007. It's also affectionately called “The Race for the Cup” because the winning community gets a large trophy and bragging rights for the year. The 2022 winner was the Imagine Cass Project Village of Cassopolis: Small, Rural, and Exceptional, which was submitted by the Village of Cassopolis.
