First Women’s and Girls’ March set for Heritage Park
Area residents are invited to celebrate Women's History Month with their mothers, grandmothers, daughters, aunts, and nieces during the first Canton Women's and Girls' March, which will take place from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, March 12 in Heritage Park, located behind the Canton Administration Building.
Designed for the entire family, the free event will feature speakers, music, activity stations, merchandise, a story trail showcasing powerhouse women throughout history, and a girl power fitness program.
In addition, Sweetwaters Coffee and Tea of Canton will be onsite with refreshments available for purchase and Growth Works will also be exhibiting informational resources. The event will culminate with a united march around the large pond in Heritage Park.“We're excited to celebrate and honor women by hosting this special event during Women's History Month, which recognizes the extraordinary achievements of women throughout history and today,” said Chelsea Straub, recreation specialist. “It's important for younger girls to be empowered as they see and learn from creative and confident women at this type of event that celebrates all women.”
Presented by The B.L.O.C.K.'s Youth & Teen Center Lead #LikeAGirl Program, this multigenerational event will include poster making, coloring, and photo opportunities. Keynote addresses will be presented by Dayna Polehanki, State Senator for Michigan's 7th Senate District, and Kim Muir, Elite Hockey coach and owner of Power Skating in Canton. Activities scheduled to follow guest speakers include a Girl Power fitness program and a march around the Heritage Park large pond. Closing remarks will be presented by Canton Township Supervisor Anne Marie Graham-Hudak.
