Mayor welcomes new businesses to community

Recently, Westland Mayor William R. Wild commented on the number of new businesses opening in the city.

“Despite the challenges caused by the pandemic, the City of Westland continues to attract a number of unique dining and entertainment businesses representing new commercial investment, not only in Westland's Shop and Dine District, but across the city. Throughout the first quarter of 2022 a number of new establishments and have opened their doors and many more are slated to open in March,” Wild said.

Among those new to the city are Egyptian Kitchen, located at 2717 S. Wayne Road which officially hosted a “soft opening” earlier this year. Egyptian Kitchen serves distinctive authentic Egyptian and Mediterranean dishes. They are currently offering a limited menu with a full menu expected to launch later this month, Wild said.

Also recently opened are Glass House Hookah Lounge and Glass House Kitchen, both located at 7900 Middlebelt Road. Both celebrated a grand opening on March 9. These new businesses are a reuse of a formerly vacant 4,678 square foot Burger King site and represent the first phase of a complete redevelopment of the vacant storefronts at Ann Arbor Road and Middlebelt. On the hooka side, they feature more than 100 different hookas and various flavors while the neighboring restaurant offers an extensive menu available for takeout. This redevelopment alone represents an $800,000 investment and will employ 10 people, Wild said.

Aroma Creperie and Café, located at 6629 N. Wayne Road is also open for business. Rajaa Aljburi is a Westland resident and first-time business owner who is realizing her family's long-time dream of a family-owned business. This new location boasts an impressive array of sweet and savory crepe options as well as additional entrée and beverage features, the mayor said.

Just up the road, 2Booli 2Go has opened inside of the formerly vacant 2,354 square foot Mexican restaurant, located at 6308 N. Wayne Road. Owned by the Ansara family, this restaurant offers a number of “build-your-own” Mediterranean dishes, for a quick lunch or convenient dinner.

This location is the second of this concept in Michigan, with its sister location having success in Farmington Hills, Wild added.

For people seeking entertainment and a unique experience, try The Legendary Axe. Located at 37550 Cherry Hill inside of Hush Haunted Attraction, The Legendary Axe is a full-service bar and restaurant which features Metro-Detroit's largest and most elaborate axe throwing facility. Westland entrepreneur Cody Baily put extensive effort into creating an immersive experience, similar to that of Hush. The Legendary Axe celebrated a grand opening March 12 and 13.

For those looking to capture memories, The Selfie Studio opened yesterday. Located at 34524 Warren Road, The Selfie Studio allows guests to enjoy 20 well-designed photo sets, providing the perfect place to spend time with family and friends. This concept is the first of this kind in the city and provides an innovative experience for those who are fans of the digital age. They also feature a 360-degree camera for artistically creative videos. “It's incredible to see so many local entrepreneurs investing in their passions and our community,” commented Wild. “These unique concepts are providing our residents and visitors of Westland with so many great options for dining and entertainment and they ultimately help shape the identify of our community.”
