Inkster officials have reminded local motorists that Phase I of construction on Avondale Street is under way in the city.
Currently, only east bound local traffic is permitted on Avondale as workers continue the road reconstruction and repair. Avondale is closed from Henry Ruff to Inkster Road. Suggested detour routes include using Inkster Road to bypass Avondale, accessing it from either Henry Ruff or Cherry Hill in the city.
Emergency vehicles will have access to the work zone as necessary, officials said.
Avondale is being reconstructed between Henry Ruff and Eastern while Northwood will be reconstructed between Avondale and Inkster Road. Eastwood Street between Inkster Road and Northwood and Center between Avondale and Northwood will all be reconstructed as part of the project which includes complete road reconstruction, including storm sewer and water main replacement.
Officials explained that the replacement of water mains in the area may cause cloudy or brown water in homes. If this occurs, residents are advised to run water through the faucets until it clears.
Construction vehicles will not be allowed on the residential side streets during the project which is expected to be complete in November.
Trash collection will remain unchanged in the area and regular mail delivery will continue, officials said.
While there will be absolutely no parking on the street, residents are urged to park in their driveways or on a nearby side street. All residents will have access to their home except during the time concrete is being poured, officials said.
