Local artisans have only until Sept. 27 to deliver their finished contest entries to the Romulus Department of Public Works. Families, businesses, organizations and individuals are all eligible to enter the competition, which began in 2015 and continues to grow each year. There is no fee to enter, but a 6-foot-3-inch scarecrow frame is available to purchase for $5 at city hall while supplies last.

All scarecrows must be designed so that they will stand upright and supplied with materials necessary to display them in an upright position. Commercially made scarecrows are not allowed and the scarecrows should be durably constructed
The scarecrows must be in good taste and appropriate for viewing by the public and families and must not contain adult, political or religious themes. No frightening, scary, violent, gruesome or bloody entries will be accepted, city officials said.
Display locations of the scarecrows will be determined by city personnel. Business owners or residents who wish to display their entry in front of their location downtown may do so without bringing the scarecrow to city
Public voting for favorite scarecrows will begin Oct. 7 and continue until 4 p.m. Nov. 1. Voting is open to the public and will be done online in a photo album of the City of Romulus
Scarecrows must be reclaimed by sponsors between Nov. 2 and Nov. 4. Those not reclaimed will be removed and discarded by the city.
