Friends: People Helping People project set for this Saturday

A group of Friends will gather this Saturday, Sept. 7,  for the 23rd Annual  Friends: People Helping People event in Wayne.
The Friends are a group of volunteers who meet to help disabled or elderly neighbors in the city with home maintenance and repair jobs they are unable to complete themselves.
Homes suggested for help are viewed by a committee from the Friends group and members evaluate the amount of help necessary. To be considered, the homes must be owner occupied.

This year, the group will help a disabled couple on Sept. 7. Volunteers plan to power wash the home and do any caulking or necessary repairs to old wood prior to painting the home.
All volunteers are asked to meet at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at HYPE Athletics Western Wayne, 4635 Howe Road. Breakfast will be provided and the location of the home for this year announced. Volunteers will receive a free t-shirt.
Everyone is eligible to volunteer and there will be experienced painters on hand to offer instructions to teach house-painting techniques.  One layer of paint will go on in the morning, lunch will be served, and then a second coat of paint will be applied in the afternoon. Volunteers should expect to be done by 2 p.m. Volunteers can come for all or any part of the day-long event.
All supplies, labor and food for the volunteers is donated to the group.
The rain date is Sept. 14.
