Van Buren to celebrate Safety Day on Saturday


Van Buren Township will celebrate Family Fun and Public Safety Day from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 14 at Menards, 10010 Belleville Road in Van Buren Township.
The day will provide Van Buren resident an opportunity to meet "the real life superheroes dedicated to protecting our wonderful community," organizers said.
There will be family-friendly activities, food, live entertainment and insights into the work of emergency personnel.

The fleet of police, fire and emergency vehicles will be on hand, the K-9 officer, Jase will be available, Pluggie the Fire Hydrant and Sweet Potato the Clown will greet visitors while members of the dive and traffic divisions will be on site.
There will be "Cones With A Cop" from the Culver's ice cream cart and an inflatable slide and bounce house. There ill also be a photo booth with props, face painting, slushies, popcorn, refreshments and other attractions, organizers said.
Members of the Lions Club will be performing free eye examinations for children ages 6 months to 6 years through the KidSight Program, designed to identify treatable and preventable causes of vision loss in preschool children.
The Law Enforcement Education Program will also have professionals on-site to provide parents with free child identification kits containing a photograph, fingerprints, height, weight and other identifying information. The identification kits can be a resource for police and the Amber Alert system to help bring missing children home safely.

The day is organized by the Van Buren Township Downtown Development Authority.
