First Step, a domestic violence shelter headquartered in Plymouth, will be a recipient of a $15,000 gift from the DTE Energy Foundation,
First Step has been serving the local community since it was established in 1978. Funds will be used to provide free services for survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault such as shelter, counseling, crisis support, legal information and children's programs. Last year, First Step served more than 7,000 survivors of violence.
DTE Regional Manager Barbara Rykwalder presented the check to First Step during a meeting last week.
“Domestic and sexual violence are serious problems that hurt many families in our community and having the support of the DTE Energy Foundation will help to save lives and help to end the tremendous fear and suffering inflicted on individuals and families,” said Lori Kitchen-Buschel, First Step executive director.
Kitchen-Buschel said, “DTE Energy Foundation made a significant difference for many local families and to domestic violence shelter programs throughout the state. Through this generous donation DTE has sent a message of care and concern to survivors and their families.”
