Manslaughter suspect enters plea of ‘no contest’

Anthony Dominic Kesteloot
Anthony Dominic Kesteloot still awaits sentencing on manslaughter charges stemming from the death of Olivia Rossi.
Both Kesteloot, 26, and Rossi, 23, were Westland residents. Kesteloot was originally charged with homicide, obstructing justice, tampering with evidence, failing to report the discovery of a dead body, disinterring and mutilating a dead body and removing a dead body without medical examination. Those charges were dropped by prosecutors in exchange for his no contest plea in court last month to the manslaughter charge which carries up to a 15-year prison sentence.

While a sentencing date in Third Circuit Court was set for March 30, that has apparently been delayed by the court in light of the current coronavirus pandemic. Kesteloot and Rossi had been acquainted since high school, according to family members, and had occasionally dated. Kestleroot picked Rossi up from her home the evening of Aug. 18 and the pair reportedly went to his apartment. She texted her twin sister that night that she and Kesteloot were at a Westland elementary school and that he was acting in an odd manner. Her texts to her sister stopped later that night.
She did not return home and her family subsequently reported her disappearance to Westland police.
Reports indicated that Kesteloot originally denied any knowledge of Rossi's fate but later led police to her body in Hines Park partially submerged in the water. He reportedly told police that she had died in his apartment.
Kesteloot was originally charged in January and waived the preliminary examination on the charges set for 18th District Court in Westland.
