An Inkster man who was arrested hiding in a Porta Potty following a Dearborn bank robbery has entered a guilty plea to federal bank robbery charges.
Charles William Woolery, 52, admitted that he was the man who robbed the Dearborn Federal Savings Bank on March 22, according to a news release. During the robbery, Woolery handed a bank teller a note that demanded she “smile” and put money in a bag or he would “kill everyone,” the release said. He implied he had a weapon with a gesture to his hip, according to investigators.
Woolery admitted in court that he was the man who then fled the bank on foot with $1,690. Dearborn police found him hiding in a Porta Potty in the parking lot of the Hampton Inn on Michigan Avenue, according to police reports. The $1,690 was found by police in the hoodie he was wearing along with a face mask, a full tan Carhartt style suit, and tan gloves like those used in the bank robbery.
“This case shows that violent criminals can run, but they can't hide no matter where they may go,” stated U.S. Attorney Dawn Ison. “The federal authorities appreciate the assistance and partnership of the Dearborn Police Department.”
The maximum penalty for bank robbery is 20 years in prison. Woolery will be sentenced Dec. 19, according to a prepared statement.
