Former newspaper publisher to sign copies of new novel
W. Edward Wendover |
Wendover said the latest novel, Murder Under The Bus, is a satirical look back in time as homicide ruins an otherwise peaceful rock concert. Set in a Florida Airstream village, the plot twists and turns as the police beat reporter from a fictionalized Havana Herald local newspaper investigates the deaths of heirs to an oil company fortune. Much of the story is presented as news stories written by the reporter.
"This modern-day example of community journalism serving an historic town typifies how American newspapers are needed to tell the news," Wendover said.
Wendover, retired from a long career as the publisher of The Plymouth Crier, writes while traveling full time across the county in "The Big Blue Bus." This novel, he said, was written for the Florida Airstream Club Winter Rally in December 2021 and was performed there as improvisational theater by members of the club. Other club members attempted to solve the mystery in an effort to raise donations for a local charity. The name of the sole correct "detective" was used for a character in the book, Wendover said.
Just as in Wendover's four previous mysteries, recipes and food notes help serve up clues, he said, including 26 recipes for items such as cast-iron pie baking, grilled Apalachicola oysters, Yorkshire Buck and chicharrones.
Previous novels in the series include Murder At The Penniman Deli; Murder By Lansing Kool-Aid; Murder On Fogo Island and Murder Over To Mary's Fish Camp. All can be ordered at www.PrepositionalMurders.com or by mail from Greko Printing, 260 West Ann Arbor Road, Plymouth, 48170. The books vary in price but the first three can be ordered for $30. Murder Under The Bus is priced at $14.99, plus $8 in shipping and handling.
The book will be on sale during the author's signing next Tuesday. E.G. Nick's is located at 500 Forest Ave. in Plymouth.
