Canton's Summer Youth Musical Theater Intensive Program presented a special production of “Footloose: Youth Edition” on the Main Stage at The Village Theater at Cherry Hill recently. This production was the culmination of a month-long intensive musical theater program for children ages 10 to 18, during which participants immersed themselves in the world of musical theater while honing their performance skills and building creativity, confidence, and collaboration through the arts. “This is the first year that Canton has offered this program that brings together kids from Canton and other metro Detroit communities. It gives them the opportunity to learn what it takes to perform in a fully realized production on the main stage,” stated Canton Arts Education Coordinator Jennifer Collins. “We are so proud of all that they have accomplished in such a short time.” This family-friendly production was based on the much-beloved movie and full-length musical, “Footloose” which tells the story of Ren McCormack's move from Chicago to a small farming town, where he prepares for the inevitable adjustment period due to attending a new high school, but is also faced with rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing.
