Chicken Sunday

For the 66th year, members of the Plymouth Rotary Club and student volunteers along with local civic group members celebrated "Chicken Sunday" last weekend with the preparation of more than 8,000 dinners in a single afternoon. Volunteers began loading the pits constructed in the parking lot behind The Gathering with charcoal in the early morning while volunteers began to load and shuck the 10,000 or so ears of corn.
Final checks of the mechanical equipment used for transporting the cooked chickens from the grills to the packaging area took place as the club members began to arrive for their assigned duties. Volunteers assembled thousands of boxes to hold the dinners as customers began to line up as early as 11 a.m. The chickens, seasoned with the famous "secret spices" were completely sold out by afternoon, a spokesman said. All funds generated from the Rotary Chicken Barbeque, which began the famous Plymouth Fall Festival, are used for community projects and local scholarships.
