Charity hockey game pits police against firefighters
It will be Handcuffs against Hoses at the Mike Modano Ice Arena in Westland on Oct. 15.
Westland police will face off against members of the Westland Fire Department in a charity hockey game.
Members of the two city public safety departments are hoping their department can take home the prestigious Battle of the Badges trophy from the game.
While the first puck will be dropped at 7:30, many other activities are also scheduled including views of police and fire vehicles, the K9 dogs, raffles, a 50/50 raffle, Chuck a Puck and a Teddy Bear Drive.
The Chuck a Puck and Teddy Bear Drive will take place during the game intermissions. Anyone wanting to participate and donate to the Teddy Bear Drive can bring a new/slightly used stuffed animal to the game. Officers will be collecting the toys and then donating the stuffed animals to the Westland Goodfellows.
Proceeds from this event will help benefit the Westland Police Community Partnership and the Westland Fire Fighter Charity Foundation. All funding raised will be used for charities supported by the police and fire departments in the city.
In 2012, the Westland Police Department established a non-profit organization called “The Westland Police Community Partnership Committee”. This non-profit charitable organization is used to enhance the philosophy of Police/Community Partnership, Community Outreach, and for Community/Schools safety awareness.
The Mike Modano Ice Arena is located at 6210 N. Wildwood in Westland.
