Chamber plans first ‘red carpet’ awards dinner

The Northville Chamber of Commerce is rolling out the red carpet March 9 to honor seven local residents for their contributions to the community.

During the first Northville Community Awards Dinner residents will be recognized for  a variety of accomplishments, according to chamber Events Manager Matt Zook. Awards will be presented for business excellence, volunteers of the year and the prestigious John Genitti Citizen of the Year honor.

Volunteers honored during the event will include Sher Watkins of the Chamber of Commerce; Nancy Darga of the City of Northville; Jeff Oles from Northville Township and Linda Bastien from the Northville District Library. The Citizen of the Year is a closely guarded secret, Zook  said.

Special guests will include Northville Mayor Brian Turnbull and Northville Township Supervisor Mark Abbo. This is a red-carpet event, Zook said, so guests can wear their finest attire and enjoy photo ops during the evening. Entertainment will be provided by the newly-formed Northville Chorale and there will be a gift basket raffle.

The dinner will begin with cocktails at 5 p.m. at Genitti's Hole-in-the-Wall, 108 East Main St., Northville. Dinner is scheduled to be served at 6 p.m. and the awards presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Marquis Theatre, 135 East Main St. in downtown Northville.

Tickets are priced at $75 per person for chamber members and $85 for non-members and are available online at: https://www.northville.org/northville-community-awards-dinner
