The flavors of Indian cuisine could soon be available in Canton Township with the potential opening of a grocery chain focused on spices and ingredients used in India and the Middle East.
Members of the Canton Township Planning Commission recently reviewed plans for a 20,000-square-foot Patel Brothers grocery store to be constructed at the former site of Canton Computers on Canton Center Road, between Ford and Hanford roads.
Plans call for the demolition of the current building on the 2.6 acre property and construction of a new building. Architects for the proposed store told commissioners that work was under way on Patel Brothers grocery stores in Ohio, Georgia, Florida and Arizona. Patel Brothers has been in business since 1974 and now operates 52 grocery stores across the country, along with those in Ann Arbor, Farmington Hills, Garden City and Troy, according to the company website.
Planning commissioners required changes to the masonry, landscape, lighting and driveway plans. When those changes are included in the plans, the project can be submitted to the township board of trustees for consideration.
