Man dies shoveling snow

The heavy snowfall last week resulted in tragedy as a 71-year-old man died while shoveling snow at his Inkster home.

According to police reports, the body of Leroy Steed was found outside his home Thursday morning, Jan. 26,  where he had fallen shoveling snow the night before. He had last been seen the night before, outside his home. Police said his death was caused by a suspected heart attack.

Steed, a grandfather, retired from General Motors after 30 years of employment. A neighbor told reporters that she believed Steed could not get his snowblower started and was attempting to shovel his walks by hand, "and that's where it all ended."

Steed's son, Roy Steed, cautioned others about the dangers the snow presents. He urged residents to talk to their parents and help them. "If they don't call, you call them. Try to influence them not to go out there and shovel the snow," he told a local news station.
