Plymouth-Canton Community Schools students rehearse for the musical
“Mamma Mia,” which opens tomorrow night in the
newly-renovated auditorium at Salem High School.
Plymouth-Canton Community Schools student actors and crew members will present the hit musical “Mamma Mia” beginning this weekend.

The Friday and Saturday performances of the Abba-based music are set for 7 p.m. on April 7-8 and April 14-15 at the recently renovated Gloria Logan Auditorium for Performing Arts at Salem High School, 46181 Joy Road in Canton. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door, and can be purchased online at pptc.booktix.com.

“Our students are involved in every aspect of the production of 'Mamma Mia' and they are so excited to entertain our community,” said Paul Bird, auditorium manager and technical director at Salem High School. “Putting together this wonderful musical, our students showed creativity, talent, teamwork and perseverance to make sure their performance of 'Mamma Mia' is as entertaining and professional as can be.”

“Mamma Mia” features a cast of 38 students in The Park Players Theater Co., a production crew of 23 along with nine musicians. The student-led theater group is performing for only the second time in Logan Auditorium after renovations were recently completed.

Part of the 2020 bond, the $4.7 million renovation to the auditorium included new lighting and paneling that improves visibility, sound and acoustics. All-new seats designed for comfort were installed, including 660 on the main floor, 260 in the balcony and 10 wheelchair accessible seats on the main floor. The auditorium now has a dedicated dressing room as well as new space backstage for props and construction.

“There is something really special about a live theatrical production and, when you add in a newly renovated facility playing host, it's just magical,” said Dr. Monica Merritt, superintendent of Plymouth Canton Community Schools. “We're thrilled to see our student cast and crew work so hard on this wonderful run of shows.”
