Disarmed

Police confiscate illegal weapons

Last Thursday, a routine traffic stop by officers from the Romulus Police Department resulted in the recovery of three handguns from an armed suspect who fled the vehicle on foot.

Officers conducted the traffic stop of a vehicle that appeared to be “casing” a local neighborhood when the driver committed a traffic violation, according to police reports of the incident.

When officers stopped the 21-year-old driver, he fled on foot from officers and a foot chase ensued in which the non-resident was quickly apprehended. Officers later discovered the man was armed and had pending legal charges and a warrant for his arrest from another jurisdiction.

Police officers subsequently discovered three handguns, one reported as stolen and another an untraceable “ghost gun” with no serial numbers or tracing.  The suspect was remanded to police custody pending execution of the arrest warrant.
