Hometown heroes in the city of Romulus will be honored during a special ceremony April 21.
A Firefighter Appreciation Ceremony is planned at the Romulus Athletic Center to recognize new additions to the fire department as well as the Firefighter of the Year and the Paramedic of the Year. The Life Saving Award and Chief's Medal will also be presented during the event, hosted by the Romulus Public Safety Foundation.
“This year's appreciation ceremony is unique in so many ways. This is the first year that the Romulus Public Safety Foundation will be hosting the event. Our newly appointed Deputy Chief Ken Chapman will carry on the tradition of the ceremony,” said Kevin Krause, director of Community Safety & Development.
“The Romulus Fire Department Firefighter Appreciation Ceremony presents a great opportunity to acknowledge the men and women who serve this community as your first responders. Each of these dedicated individuals contribute to the core values and mission of the department. I am looking forward to recognizing their contributions at the Appreciation Ceremony,” said Deputy Chief Ken Chapman.
Chapman, who was a paid-on-call firefighter in the city in 1987 under former Fire Chief William Greenslait, was recently named to his new rank in the department.
The appreciation ceremony is planned for 5 until 7 p.m. April 21 in the Cirrus Banquet Room at Romulus Athletic Center, located at 35765 Northline Road in Romulus. For more information about the ceremony, contact the Romulus Fire Department at (734) 941-8585.
Firefighters with the City of Romulus Fire Department are trained and certified by the State of Michigan and are on always on duty, prepared for emergencies involving fire, extrication, severe weather, rescues, hazardous material and other dangerous situations, a spokesman noted.
