Fire department promotes new lieutenant

Michael Obermiller
Northville Township Firefighter/Paramedic Michael Obermiller has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant.

Obermiller joined the Northville Township department in 2011 and "has consistently shown unwavering commitment and professionalism in serving our community," officials said.

Obermiller earned his bachelor of science degree at Siena Heights University and is currently pursuing a masters degree in health care management business administration at Columbia South University. In 2018, his peers honored Obermiller as the Firefighter of the Year, a testament to his dedication and service, officials said.

Obermiller has held various roles throughout his time with the Northville Township department. He has mentored new firefighters during their probationary training program and has made a significant impact as an elementary education specialist, officials said. Many children in Northville Public Schools know him as "Firefighter Mike" because he delivers valuable fire and life safety education every fall.

Obermiller represents the department on the Western Wayne County Hazardous Materials Response Team as a hazmat specialist and team leader.

He was also a former member of the Western Wayne County Special Operations team, serving as a tactical paramedic. Additionally, as a former Northville High School graduate, Obermiller was a founding member of the Northville Township Firefighters Charity Fund in 2014 and currently serves as treasurer of the organization.
