Wayne Mayor Pro-tem Tom Porter has resigned. |
Porter, who joined the council in November of 2015, had battled cancer during the COVID pandemic.
A city official speaking for the members of the Wayne City Council and the administrative staff in the city issued a statement regarding Porter's service on the council expressing “sincerest gratitude for his outstanding dedication and service during his tenure on the city council.”
The statement commended Porter's tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the city as “truly remarkable” and said that he “has consistently displayed exceptional leadership qualities and a genuine passion for improving the lives of our residents. His vision, integrity, and ability to bring people together have made a significant impact on our community.”
Porter championed various initiatives which resulted in positive changes and advancements in the city, officials said. “His expertise and insightful contributions during council meetings and deliberations have been invaluable, guiding us towards informed decisions and effective governance.
“Furthermore, Tom's dedication to fostering civic engagement and strengthening community ties have been exemplary. Through his community outreach, he ensured that the voices of the residents were heard and considered. Tom's commitment to inclusivity and equal representation has helped create an environment where every individual feels valued and empowered.”
City administrators noted that Porter has been an inspiration to many and remarked on his indelible influence in the community.
“The progress we have achieved working with Tom will continue to benefit future generations. His selfless dedication and countless hours of hard work have set a high standard for public service, serving as an example for others to follow.”
Porter, a U.S. Navy veteran, was significantly involved in the city Veteran's Memorial project.
“On behalf of the council, administration, and our grateful community, we extend our heartfelt appreciation for Tom's exceptional service to our city. His unwavering commitment and passion have made a profound difference, and his legacy will endure for years to come,” the formal statement continued.
