Workers ice blast the interior of the fire-ravaged Karl’s Cabin in the ongoing remodeling and mediation work at the 76-year-old building. The Poulos family hopes for a re-opening this fall. |
In a social media post, the family said substantial progress has been made with the renovation and “while it's been a long and complex road, we feel like we've turned the corner with the recent completion of the rough framing portion of the project. In the process we added a new kitchen addition to create more space for our back-of-house team allowing us to expand our food selections in the future. We also increased the size of our second floor and back hallways generating a better workflow experience for our front of house staff. We are now officially moving in a forward direction with our remodel,” they said.
Like most construction projects, there have been some hiccups and mitigating the extensive smoke damage caused by the fire has presented some challenges. The family said the building was scheduled to be ice blasted last week as the final step in the smoke remediation process. The repairs have included bringing the building into modern day construction codes, a time-consuming and meticulous process.
One concern has been the restoration of the interior logs in the main dining room, the family said. Saving the original appearance and keeping the integrity of the historic log dining room is important to the Poulos family, the statement noted, “so this will be a tedious task for our stain contractor. Our plumbers and electricians will also start working inside the cabin running main lines throughout. And we look forward to the installation of new windows, doors, siding and roof where the fire did the most damage.”
A three-alarm fire Feb. 15 seriously damaged the Gotfredson Road restaurant which has been closed during as the extensive repairs and renovations continue.
