Victorian Festival to begin in Northville tomorrow

Authentic Victorian costumes are a tradition during the
Northville Victorian Festival which celebrates the history of the community.
Northville will celebrate the history of the community during the annual Victorian Festival set for this weekend, Sept. 22, 23 and 24.

The three-day celebration opens with the Victorian Parade tomorrow evening and continues through Saturday and Sunday. The traditional event includes live music, theatrical performances, Victorian-era re-enactors, educational presentations, craft vendors, duck races and other entertainment.

The festival booths will open from 4 until 9 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 22 on Main and Center streets. Throughout the weekend, local non-profit, school groups, food trucks, and arts and crafts vendors will be engaging with visitors in the heart of town, providing food and activities. 

At 6:30 p.m. tomorrow, the festival will officially begin with the Victorian Parade featuring children and adults all dressed in period attire. The parade will start on West Cady and Wing near the post office travel down East Cady to Hutton, Dunlap to Linden, West Main to Wing and back to the starting point. The Shawn Riley Band will perform at Town Square from 7 until 10 p.m. tomorrow.

This year, officials said there will be no beer tent. Instead, visitors are encouraged to enjoy the expanded social district, The Twist, and meet in downtown Northville at Town Square or on the closed streets at Main and Center. The restaurants and bars in town will be open to help celebrate the event.

On Saturday, festival booths will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Town Square stage will feature entertainment all day, with performers ranging from musicians to magicians. At 11 a.m., Magician Jeff Wawrzaszek of A2 Magic, has a comedy/magic show, sponsored by the Northville District Library. At 1 p.m., the Northville Chorale performs.  The Switchback Band will perform from 2 until 5 p.m. Northville Folk will play from 7 to 9 p.m. A full schedule of performances is available at the Northville Chamber of Commerce website.

The Eclipse Vintage Baseball team plays at Ford Field at noon on Saturday and at 1 p.m. on Sunday. 

From noon until 3 p.m. Sunday, Mill Race Village will offer tours, events and family fun. The spirited duck race begins at 3:30 p.m. Duck sales will take place from noon to 3 p.m. and sell for $5 per duck or a Quack Pack of five for $20. In downtown Northville on Sunday, festival booths are open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Switchback returns to Town Square stage from noon to 3 p.m.
