Wayne-Westland Community Schools will be in the driver's seat of a new training system funded by a $250,000 state grant.
The State of Michigan awarded the through an award of $250,000 to support an innovative Driver's License Pilot Program.
This initiative aims to empower students with essential life skills and enhance future opportunities by giving them access to driver's education, officials said.
The pilot program will offset the high cost of driver's education and help break down barriers for Wayne-Westland Community Schools' students seeking a driver's license.
The new training system and funding ensures all eligible students can obtain a driver's license, school officials explained.
“This is a win for Wayne-Westland. This program will have a lasting impact on our students and our community,” said Dr. John Dignan, superintendent of Wayne-Westland Community Schools.
“Access to driver's education will empower our students with more independence, employment opportunities and personal growth, he concluded.
