Three high schools in the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools district are ranked among the best in the nation, according to a report from U.S. News and World Report.
According to the list of the best public high schools in the country published by the magazine, Canton, Salem and Plymouth high schools were rated among the top 10 percent. Among Michigan public high schools, Canton High School is ranked No. 21, Salem is 31st and Plymouth is 37th. Michigan has more than 1,700 high schools.
“We know Plymouth-Canton Community Schools can compete with the best schools anywhere in the nation and it's exciting to see the hard work of our staff, students and parents shine through in these rankings,” Plymouth Canton Community Schools Superintendent Dr. Monica L. Merritt said. “As we begin a new school year, we look forward to building on our successes so every student can thrive and succeed in whatever they choose to do.”
U.S. News and World Report staff members evaluated nearly 18,000 public high schools at the national, state and local levels and included national and state rankings, plus Best STEM, charter and magnet high schools. The rankings are based on students' scores on state assessment tests for math, reading and science. The top ranked schools also had strong performances among underserved students, robust college readiness programs, extensive curriculum offerings and high graduation rates, according to the publication.
