Citizen of the Year nominations being accepted

Northville residents have only until Jan. 1 to nominate candidates for the annual John Genitti Citizen of the Year award.

Each year, the Northville community celebrates the dedication and commitment of community members who give their time, energy, and talent to make Northville a special place to live, work, and play, said a spokesman from the Northville Chamber of Commerce, sponsor of the event.

Each year since 1976, a citizen has been recognized with the Citizen of the Year award. In 2014, the award was designated the “John Genitti Citizen of the Year Award,” in honor of local resident and businessman John Genitti.

The Citizen of the Year receives a place of honor in the Independence Day Parade, the Victorian Heritage Festival Parade and the Holiday Lighted Parade.

To be considered for the award, the nominee must be involved in actively supporting (through time, talent or financial support) an organization that improves the Northville community. The nominee must work or live in the Northville community and demonstrate a concern for the community, environment and family.

Candidates should be a role model from youth and citizens, according to the nominating petition criteria.

The nomination must include a brief outline of the reasons the candidate might qualify for Citizen of the Year status.

Nomination forms are available at https://www.northville.org/citizen-of-the-year.

The winner of the 2024 John Genitti Citizen of the Year will be announced on Feb. 8 at the Northville Community Awards Dinner.
