School staff members, Whiteline Express deliver holiday meals
Plymouth-Canton Community Schools partnered with a local business to help spread some holiday cheer to dozens of families.
The school district and Whiteline Express, a trucking company in Plymouth, distributed turkeys and all the sides to families with students in district schools from Dec. 19 through today, Dec. 21. Part of a years-long partnership, Whiteline contributes the food while school district staff members deliver it.
“Plymouth-Canton Community Schools strongly believes in supporting families in our district in any way possible and we're so pleased to have Whiteline Express as our partner to help bring a little holiday cheer to our families,” said Superintendent of Schools Monica L. Merritt. “Our families are the heart of our district and we're grateful we have this opportunity to give back to them during the holiday season.”
Whiteline Express assembled the holiday meal package consisting of a turkey, potatoes, stuffing, vegetables, sweet potatoes, canned food and other items. Sixty-five families who needed help this holiday season picked up baskets at Plymouth High School.
“Whiteline Express has made our home in the Plymouth-Canton community since 1983 and the families who live here are also our families in many ways,” said Whiteline Vice President of Transportation Brian Holley. “We are truly honored to be able to continue this holiday tradition with Plymouth-Canton Community Schools in supporting our local families and children and help bring a little happiness into their homes.”
The turkey feast program has been a project of the school district and Whiteline Express for the past five years.
“At Plymouth-Canton Community Schools, we want to help ensure that families can enjoy a festive and nutritious holiday meal, and that's what drives our turkey feast donation,” said Assistant Superintendent of Student and Family Engagement Liz Vartanian-Gibbs. “Our staff volunteers are really excited to be part of this effort and help distribute baskets for food ahead of the holidays.”
