Both Borgelt and Price started with the department as firefighters in 1992 and earned their paramedic licenses in 2000, when the department converted from basic to an Advanced Life Support medical provider.
As firefighter/paramedics, both Borgelt and Price were assigned to an ambulance, providing emergency medical treatment to thousands of patients with varying injuries and illnesses. They were each later trained as an operator, running the multi-faceted fire engines and pumper trucks on fire scenes.
Borgelt was promoted to the rank of captain in 2012, and to Battalion Chief in 2016. In his role as an officer, he was responsible for numerous administrative duties, along with overseeing a shift of firefighter/medics responding to calls for emergency service.
Price was promoted to the rank of captain in 2013, and to Battalion Chief in 2018. In his role as an officer, he, too, was responsible for numerous administrative duties, along with overseeing a shift of firefighter/medics responding to calls for emergency service. “Battalion Chief is the highest ranking position in the fire suppression division. With two retiring at the same time, the department is losing a lot of experience and leadership,” said Fire Chief Chris Stoecklein.
“Both of these men contributed to the organization by upholding the high fire service standards our community has come to expect from the Canton Fire Department. They should retire with pride in knowing they were integral in ensuring their shift of firefighters went home safely to their families every night,” Stoecklein added.
