“Despite that false narrative out there, and it is a false narrative, I want to assure all our residents that every ballot was counted and handled properly. Every ballot counted,” she said.
Craig-Bragg also formally thanked all the volunteers and workers who helped during the election which saw 12,740 registered voters in Romulus participate Nov. 3.
“Our election inspectors, workers from all over, the receiving board the AV (absentee ballot) counting board, they hung in here until 4:30 in the morning to make sure that every ballot was counted. Kudos to them,” Craig-Bragg said.
She thanked her department workers who had been training and preparing for the election since Sept. 14.
“This was a baptism by fire,” she said. “Many of you may not know, but we had lines out the door and all the way to the library.”
She said that because of the massive voter turnout, her staff and the election workers were constantly busy handing out ballots and checking identifications and that other department employees and heads stepped in to handle the door and provide whatever help they could to the crowds.
“I need to thank everyone. The support was incredible. This was an unusual election throughout our county, state and our country. Romulus had a peaceful day with no major incidents,” she said. “I credit the people of Romulus who wanted to come out and vote.”
“It was a very long day for all of us, but every other city department jumped in to help out,” she said. “This election really was a team effort with all my staff members who worked so hard.”
She thanked Steve Dudek of the city IT department who stayed with the election workers until 5:30 in the morning.
“There was a lot of technology involved and Steve played a big role in keeping the equipment running properly,” she said.
Craig-Bragg also thanked the city DPW and the police departments who, she said, played an integral role in helping people get to city hall to vote.
“I want to thank everyone. The support was incredible,” she said.
“But most importantly, I want to assure all our residents that despite this false narrative being circulated, every ballot counted.”
