Distinguished Young Women
for 2021 title winners are chosen

Morgan Butler, a student at Wayne Memorial High School was named as the Distinguished Young Woman of Wayne-Westland for 2021 during ceremonies March 6.
Nine contestants from Wayne, Westland and Inkster competed for thousands of dollars in college scholarships and the chance to represent local communities at local events and at the state finals in July 2020. The scholarship program is based on academic scholastics, leadership, physical fitness and talent.
Butler received a total of $2,200 in scholarships including several category scholarships during the event.
Emma Elinski, a student at John Glenn High School in Westland, was named as the Distinguished Young Woman of Wayne County for 2021 during the event and was awarded $850 in scholarships.

Named as Distinguished Young Woman of Westland for 2021 was Arleth Gonzalez, who was awarded $700 in scholarships during the pageant.
The women performed an opening number and competed in a performing arts talent routine, a physical fitness routine and self expression. The contestants were also evaluated based on academic scholastics and an interview.
In addition to Butler, Elinski and Gonzalez, Isabella Riopelle of John Glenn earned $550 in scholarship money; Zuriel Phillips, was awarded $100 in college funding; Shannon Blevins also was awarded $100. All three are students at John Glenn High School.
La'tavia Bentress of Wayne Memorial High School earned $200 in scholarship money and Savannah Byers of John Glenn earned $100 in scholarship funds. Wendy Santiago-Rivera of Wayne Memorial earned $100 in award funds and Shauna Jackson of Cass Technical High School was awarded $100. All the candidates for the honor were high school juniors.
The Wayne-Westland Local Program is part of the Distinguished Young Women of America, which has impacted the lives of more than 765,000 young women since it first began in 1958.
This year, the program, co-directed by Lauren Reed and Jodi Berry awarded $5,000 to the participating students.
