Members of the Wayne City Council accepted the recommendation of the city planning commissioners and unanimously approved a plan for a new truck terminal.
The site plan, requested by Grewal Trucking, includes the construction of a new truck terminal on 2.8 acres of vacant property south of Annapolis and west of Treadwell in the city. Grewal will store trucks at the site which will have two buildings, according to Wayne Building and Engineering Director Michael Buiten.
“They're starting with a smaller structure first and moving later to a larger structure,” he told the council members during their meeting recently. Currently, the property does not have an official address.
Initially, according to Navdeep Grewal who spoke to the council members regarding the petition for the site plan, the company would store about 50 trucks at the site. When the larger building is constructed, repairs to the trucks could take place at the site.
“We will do the repairs when we have a shop. Right now, in the beginning, we will not have a shop,” Grewal said. “The future plan, the building is going ... to include a shop where we will do the repairs.
