Those looking for a career in law enforcement have an opportunity with the City of Wayne where applications to join the police department are now being accepted.
The department has posted a job opening and distributed flyers seeking candidates to join the 21 sworn officers, 10 police service aides and six support staff department.

Applicants must conform to employment standards as set by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) and must possess good moral character as determined by a favorable background investigation covering school and employment records, home environment, personal traits and integrity, officials said.
To apply, individuals can submit an application for employment available at Wayne City Hall. The application can be emailed, faxed or delivered to the police department. Candidates will then be required to successfully complete the Empco written examination and attend an oral interview with a board of officers. A score of 70 percent or higher is required on the interview, officials said. Individuals will also be the subject of a background investigation and a personal interview with Strong.
Candidates will also have to successfully complete a psychological and physical examination, before being hired.
The written test is available at www.wmpco.net. Individuals are urged to double and triple check any information submitted as part of the test profile.
The staring salary in the Wayne department is currently $43,046.64 and the top salary is $69,298.32 with 10 paid holidays. The Wayne department also provides medical and dental insurance and optical reimbursement with a defined benefit retirement plan. Full benefits are offered after 25 years of service and officers accrue vacation and sick time during the first year for used after completion of probation.
The department also offers a $1,000 clothing voucher and $825 proficiency pay for weapon certification. There is an on site gym and locker room for officers at the police station and an on-site indoor gun range.
