Members of the Plymouth Canton Community Schools Board of Education selected LaRonda Chastang to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Trustee Leonardo Savage last month.
Chastang was among 14 local residents interviewed for the school board position and one of three who were selected for a second interview based on a scoring system completed by current board members.
The mother of three and grandmother of three, Chastang is employed as the vice president of diversity and inclusion for Trinity Health systems based in Livonia.
She earned her bachelors degree at Michigan State University and her master's degree from the University of Michigan.
“I am both excited and honored about the opportunity to serve our community of learners,” Chastang said, when her appointment was announced last week. “Being selected from among a dynamic group of applicants is truly humbling, and I commit to work collaboratively alongside the other trustees and superintendent to advance the mission and vision of our district.”
Chastang will serve the remainder of Savage's term, which ends in December 2022.
Savage submitted his resignation to the board following serious health issues which prevented him from serving.
