Investigations into two separate shootings that killed three people in Inkster May 24 and May 25 are continuing, police said.
During an early-evening basketball game in the 27900 block of Rosewood Street on Monday night, May 25, four people were shot, two of them fatally.
All of the victims were transported to a local hospital with their injuries. One victim died the same night at the hospital while a second died early Tuesday.
Witnesses told Michigan State Police investigators that several suspects ran between houses and opened fire with multiple weapons on the four victims playing basketball. All the shooters fled the scene and police have not yet identified the suspects.
Police surmise that an earlier shooting at about 4 a.m. Tuesday at a home in the 3800 block of Inkster Road may be connected to the later shooting. Police said they were first called to the home on a report of a woman being shot. Police took a weapon from her boyfriend in the home, but did not confirm it was the weapon used in the shooting. Later the same morning, between 5:30 and 6:05, police believe the same individuals who had earlier wounded the woman returned and shot her boyfriend in the head, killing him.
“It appears the first shooting wasn't the intended victim. They came back around to unfortunately finish what they started,” said Lt. Michael Shaw, with Michigan State Police.
At last report, police had not identified any suspects in either of the incidents.
