Mayor appoints volunteers to various positions

Mayor William R. Wild announced several appointments various Westland commissions and committees last week and the appointments were confirmed by members of the Westland City Council at the June 7 meeting.. Confirmations were by unanimous vote.  


Board of Review

Karri Beebe has been appointed as an alternate member for a three-year term on the Westland Board of Review expiring June 7, 2024.  Beebe currently works as a staff accountant for Walnut Services, Inc. 

Established by the City of Westland Charter, Section (13.7), and Michigan General Property Tax Law, the Board reviews the annual assessment roll and hears appeals of real and personal property assessments.


Central Wayne County Sanitation Authority (CWCSA)

Wild has been reappointed as delegate effective July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022. Steven Smith has been reappointed as an alternate member effective July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022. 

The Central Wayne County Sanitation Authority operates the incinerator used by Westland, Wayne, Inkster, Garden City and Dearborn Heights.


Commission on Aging

Mary Underwood has been appointed for a two-year term expiring May, 2023. 

She has been a volunteer with the Senior Alliance delivering food. Underwood has also worked with seniors through AARP Tax Aide Program. 

The Commission on Aging assists the Senior Resources Department Director in promoting the enrichment of the lives of senior citizens.


Compassionate City Committee

Rodney Donald has been reappointed to the Compassionate City Committee for one-year term expiring in May, 2022.  Donald is a Westland Police Officer and has been a volunteer in the community for several different groups. 

Jo Anne Downing has been reappointed to the Compassionate City Committee for a one-year term expiring in May, 2022.  Downing has been a Westland resident for 54 years and belongs to several compassionate groups. 

Jon Dubois has been reappointed to the Compassionate City Committee for a one-year term expiring in May, 2022.  Dubois currently works for Ford Motor Co. 

Heather Jones has been reappointed to the Compassionate City Committee for a one-year term expiring in May, 2022. Jones is a 10-year resident of Westland. She is a medical receptionist at PPTS. 

Eric Stoddard has been reappointed to the Compassionate City Committee for one-year term expiring May, 2022. Stoddard is a Hamtramck firefighter and is a member of the Jaycees and VFW 0995 Auxiliary. 

Jennifer Swartz has been reappointed to the Compassionate City Committee for one-year term expiring May, 2022. Swartz is an Air Force veteran and a nurse with 11 years of service. 

Shannon Ziegler has been reappointed to the Compassionate City Committee for one-year term expiring May, 2022.  Ziegler has spent the last seven years working for a local non-profit. 

The Compassionate City Committee assists with identifying members of the community that have made a positive impact in the community with a random act of kindness or gesture to help an individual or organization.


Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Commission

Charles Corley II has been appointed to an unexpired term for the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Commission. Corley currently works at Ford Motor Co. and has volunteered as a mentor for youth in the city. 

Chisa Pinion has been appointed to an unexpired term for the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Commission expiring October, 2021. Pinion has worked in supervisory and management roles and has been a strong community advocate. 

The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Commission (DEI)  promotes, supports and advocates for the vision and values around diversity, equity and inclusion at all levels.


Parks & Recreation Advisory Council

Chris Galatis has been appointed to the Parks & Recreation Advisory Council for a term expiring in December, 2021.  Galatis currently works at The City of Grosse Pointe Farms in the Parks & Recreation Department. 

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Council assists and advises the city with various agencies and programs, conducts outreach, enrollment, training, and orientation; development programs and activities, makes recommendations regarding the acquisition, development, and administration of properties with recreational activities.


Westland Housing Commission

Elizabeth Forbes has been reappointed to the Westland Housing Commission for a five year term expiring in June, 2026. Forbes will also serve on the Westland Taylor Corp. She has been serving on the Westland Housing Commission since 2013. 

The Westland Housing Commission manages the Housing Choice Voucher Program.
