Former councilman is mourned

Richard Yeramian
Members of the Romulus City Council unanimously approved a resolution honoring Richard Yeramian who died Jan. 8 at his Romulus home.

Mr. Yeramian, 77, served as a member of the Romulus City Council from 1979 until 1981 and was one of the first members of the Romulus Township Police Department, according to his long-time friend, Councilman William Wadsworth.

Wadsworth requested the memorial resolution and told the members of the council that he and Mr. Yeramian had been friends since 1968 and were partners at the Wayne County Sheriff's department where they were both employed for many years.

Wadsworth said that Mr. Yeramian worked at the sheriff's department for 23 or 24 years and was one of his dearest friends.

"He was a father, a husband a grandfather, just a great guy," Wadsworth said.

Among Mr. Yeramian's survivors are his wife, Michelle (nee Coffee); his children, Jennifer (Tiffany) Rod;  Julie (Sean) Pierse, Shelly (Robert) Maples and Karra Yeramian; eight grandchildren; sisters Virginia (the late Mourad) Bagdasarian and Norma (the late Eddie) Astourian along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his dog, Cassie.

Entombment was at Michigan Memorial Park.
