Events designed to explore the diverse cultures in the community are planned at area places of worship in Canton Township this spring.
Organizers said each visit will offer a brief overview of the faith, customs, and beliefs, as well as samples of some representative food and music from that featured, unique culture.
“We're excited to once again be able to provide these unique culinary and cultural experiences to provide an opportunity for Canton residents to get to know their neighbors and increase their understanding of the unique cultures that make up our community,” said Jennifer Girard, recreation specialist. “We hope that these diverse experiences will encourage dialogue and engagement within our community that will ultimately lead to more appreciation and acceptance.”
The 'Culture & Cuisine' experiences will take place from 6 until 8:30 p.m. on scheduled Fridays. Upcoming sessions are planned for March 24 at Geneva Presbyterian Church, located at 5835 N. Sheldon Road; April 28 at Darbar Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, located at 48055 Michigan Ave and May 5 at St. Thomas a'Becket Catholic Church, located at 555 S. Lilley Road. The May 5 event will take place from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m.
There is a $10 per person fee for each visit and visitors can choose from any or all of the houses of worship to attend. Registered participants are asked to meet at the house of worship on the scheduled day.
Tickets for the events are very limited, organizers cautioned, and early registration is strongly advised. All funds collected from these sessions will be donated to the Interfaith Community Outreach.
