The Eagle apologizes to Romulus Mayor Robert McCraight, to the members of his administration and most sincerely to the residents of Romulus and our readers in the other communities we serve.
On the front page of the June1-June 7 edition of The Eagle, we reported on the State of the City Address by Mayor McCraight, detailing progress in the City of Romulus. Due to some serious family medical emergencies, we made a serious and egregious error. The account of the address was of the mayor's 2022 address rather than his current report to the community regarding the progress made during the last year.
We most sincerely regret this inexcusable error and any confusion or misunderstanding our reporting of the previous address may have caused. The mayor, and his staff, have been gracious in notifying us of this mistake. We cannot fully express our distress at this error and are well aware of the impact this inaccuracy may have on the community and on our reputation.
The Eagle has, for more than 100 years, taken great pride in our ability to serve the local communities and our reputation for objective and accuracy is our most valued asset. An error such as this is obviously distressing to Mayor McCraight and his administration and is an insult to our mission of providing accurate information to the communities we serve.
It has been a matter of great professional pride that these errors have occurred infrequently during the past century but when such a situation occurs, we are determined to make every correction or clarification possible.
We will report on Mayor McCraight's 2023 State of the City address accurately on our pages next week. Unfortunately, the pages were complete for this issue prior to being notified of this error by members of the mayor's staff.
Again, our most sincere apologies to Mayor McCraight and our readers for this error which is no indication of our general practices or procedures. We strive, every week, to provide accurate and objective reporting on which our reputation has been built.
We failed to meet our own standards and expectations and will take every action possible to correct this error and regain the trust of our readers.
Our deepest apologies.
