Students send donations to Salvation Army pantry
Isbister Principal Emily Hawthorne said her school, which supports The Salvation Army every year, organized a friendly competition among the classrooms to see which could collect the most food and personal hygiene items. Daily tallies were included in the Isbister morning announcements.
“We participated in the drive as there was great need to restock our local Plymouth Salvation Army shelves,” Hawthorne said. “The Salvation Army supports our local community and Isbister families. Students were excited and eager to participate, especially with the friendly competition for the class with the most donated items at the end of the week to earn a pizza party.”
Isbister alone collected more than 2,000 food and hygiene items by the time the drive ended.
“We love supporting our local Plymouth Salvation Army because they serve the families of our community and support our students in need,” Isbister teacher Natalie Kind said.
Salvation Army officers said needs during the summer include foods that are convenient to prepare and easy to access for children at home, such as Hamburger Helper, canned ravioli or spaghetti, fruit and cereal.
“Students are showing us how much they care about others through their generous donations,”said Major Kris Wood of The Salvation Army Plymouth.
