A man who fled the scene of a fatal car crash on Sumpter Road was located and arrested by Sumpter Police later the same day.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged David Armando Palacios-Sanchez, 43, of Detroit, in connection with the crash that killed Reyna Martinez-Hernandez, 49, of Rockford, Illinois, and injured a 36-year-old woman from Plainfield, New Jersey.
According to the prosecutor, Palacios-Sanchez was driving at a high rate of speed at about 8:21 p.m. May 28 when he lost control of his vehicle striking and killing Martinez-Hernandez and seriously injuring another woman.
Police reported that Palacios-Sanchez fled the scene before medical responders arrived. Martinez-Hernandez was pronounced dead of her injuries and the 36-year-old unnamed victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment, according to reports from the office of the prosecutor.An investigation by Sumpter police resulted in the arrest of Palacios-Sanchez later the same day, the prosecutor said.
Palacios-Sanchez has been charged with one count of operating while intoxicated causing death, one count of reckless driving causing death, one count of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury, one count of reckless driving causing serious impairment of a body function, two counts of failure to stop at scene of an accident resulting in serious impairment of death, and one count of possession of a controlled substance - less than 25 Grams.
Palacios-Sanchez was arraigned in 34th District Court and given a $500,000 cash bond. The probable cause conference is scheduled for June 14 before Judge Lisa Martin.
