There was a special celebration during the annual Canton Liberty Fest this year as officials and residents gathered for the ribbon-cutting of the newly installed universally ADA-accessible playground equipment, soft-fall surfaces, and concrete pathway around the Heritage Park North Playground.
The playground improvements were funded through the Community Block Grant program. Additional services were provided by MCSA Group for landscape architectural designs and DMC Group Consultants, Inc. for construction at the park.
Recently completed improvements at the playground include the installation of universally ADA-accessible play equipment including: a four-person see-saw; swings featuring adaptive seats enabling caregivers and children to swing together; activity panel featuring a buzzer reaction game; an accessible picnic table as well as soft-fall, rubber fall surfacing.
This project was funded through a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), which was obtained from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to fund federally required facility park improvements to remove playground barriers. These grant dollars were applied to make enhancements to the Heritage Park playground area by installing equipment that meets ADA requirements and invites spontaneous play from younger park visitors of all abilities to take advantage of these inviting outdoor features, officials said.
