Granted

Court program awarded state funds

Judge Breeda O'Leary and the 29th District Western Wayne Regional Behavioral Treatment Court (RBTC) have been awarded a $231,500 grant to fund the area Mental Health Court. This grant, awarded by Michigan Mental Health Court Grant Program (MMHCGP) will play a pivotal role in enhancing the services and resources available to individuals struggling with mental health challenges within the western Wayne community, officials said.

The 29th District Court RBTC Program is dedicated to addressing the unique needs of individuals involved in the criminal justice system who are grappling with mental health issues, according to a prepared statement from the court. “It operates on the principles that by providing appropriate treatment, support, and guidance, we can break that cycle of incarceration for these individuals, reduce recidivism, and foster a healthier and safer community,” the statement continued.

“This grant will have a profound impact on the lives of individuals who find themselves at the intersection of mental health challenges and the legal system,” the statement concluded.
