Holiday decorating contest continues in city

This isn't going to be easy.

Members of the Department of Neighborhood Services team in Westland will be traveling through neighborhoods until Dec. 24 seeking the best holiday home decorations as part of The All American Holiday Decorating Contest which began last week.

Residents can visit the city website to nominate themselves or a friend in one or all of three categories: Best Traditional Display, Most Creative Display and Over the Top Display. Nominees will be asked to enter a picture along with their submission.

“The Department of Neighborhood Services team will be out and about in neighborhoods in search of those residents who have gone the extra mile to make their homes shine this holiday season,” commented Mayor William Wild.

“Our residents make it tougher and tougher every year on our Neighborhood Services judges who are tasked with picking the winners.”

Winners will be announced and awarded with prizes at the first city council meeting of the New Year on Jan. 3.

“One of my favorite memories of the holidays growing up in Westland was driving around with my parents to look at the holiday lights and decorations,” commented Wild. “There is nothing quite like the feeling of driving around your hometown and feeling the joy of the holiday season.”
